+ Abstract

This article presents the results of a study on the brine and bottom sediments of several salt lakes in the southern Kherson region: Genicheskoe, Solenoe, Lemuriyskoye, Prisivashskoye, and Sokolovskoye lakes. Currently, these lakes are used as recreational sites for unorganized tourism. While scientific data confirming the therapeutic properties of the salt water (brine) and bottom sediments (mud) are lacking, many media outlets position these water bodies as "healing." This study aims to investigate the potential application of natural therapeutic hydro-mineral resources from salt lakes in southern Kherson for balneotherapy and the resort industry. Laboratory analyses were conducted at the Central Testing Laboratory of the Crimean Hydro-Geological Regime Operational Station. Based on the physicochemical data of the brine and bottom sediments, the article discusses the feasibility of their commercial development. Conclusions regarding the presence of beneficial natural hydro-mineral resources in the studied lakes are drawn by comparing the laboratory results with the existing standards for resources of similar composition, such as those from the Sakskoye therapeutic lake and other salt lakes used in balneological and industrial practices. The findings indicate that, according to the established hydrochemical parameters, the brine of the Kherson lakes is a close analogue to the brine of the salt lakes in Crimea, primarily Sakskoye and Sasyk-Sivash. The most promising commercial applications for the studied brine are balneotherapy and salt extraction. The bottom sediments are classified as low-to-medium sulfide silt therapeutic muds, suitable for use in balneology and health resort medicine. These findings are preliminary. Detailed exploration and clinical evaluation of therapeutic properties are required before commencing industrial development of the hydro-mineral resources in the Kherson region.
